Today I’m doing something rare, which is actually recording this podcast on the day that it’s scheduled go live. Why? Because snow and sick days have stolen my silence.

The door to my office right now is wide open. And if you listen carefully, you may be able to hear the songs of The Little Mermaid playing out in my living room as my children are watching. And you may also be able to hear chores being done and other miscellaneous noises around my house.

I thought that summer vacation was hard, especially with the podcast with my two older boys home and not really being able to rely on silence during the day. But let me tell you, January of 2018 has already given me a run for my money. Just after Christmas, my whole family came down with the flu and bronchitis. Well, my whole family minus one and immediately after that the snow and ice came in.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to relate to this, however in southwestern Ohio, if there is even the littlest bit of snow or ice on the ground, schools have a high probability of being canceled for the day. And not only that, but people on the roads are completely insane. You would think that they would understand this slow down and be more careful, however, that’s not usually the case. Because of that, on the days when there’s been snow or ice in the schools are canceled. I’ve actually been keeping my three littles home from daycare, just so I don’t have to go out there and risk all the crazies on the road.

If this year is starting the same for you, I want you to remember to take a deep breath and know that better weather calm and silence are right around the corner. In the meantime, I have no problem admitting that my kids have had access to Youtube Kids on my cell phone, all of our Amazon videos on the TV and anything that it takes for me to just get a little bit of work time in during the day. We can only do the best that we can do on any given day. And as you’re moving forward, there may definitely be struggles like I am facing with a lack of silence.

I don’t know if you can hear it, but I swear my 15 year old Jacob is turning the water on louder and louder just to make a point. But when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. And in this case, when life is giving me a lack of silence, I’m just going to share it with the world. make the best out of what today is giving you.

And with that said, go forth and make it a positive and productive day.
