Episode Transcription

Kim Sutton Today I want to take a look at being invisible versus being ignored. Now, there were so many times in the first few years of my business that I felt like I was being ignored, that I would send messages or post messages on social media and nobody would respond. But what I began to realize, okay, let me just be more honest, what I’ve realized since launching the Positive Productivity Podcast was that I wasn’t being ignored, I was invisible. I hadn’t been putting myself out there and creating relationships with people. So when I all of a sudden popped up out of the blue and posted a message, people didn’t know who I was to respond. They didn’t recognize my face or my name so it shouldn’t have surprised me that they kept on scrolling and passed my messages by. At the time I was really hurt, I felt like somewhere deep down, I had done something wrong. And to be totally honest, I wasn’t acting that much different from a teenager in high school. I’m sure you know, the kids that I’m talking about. They walk around the halls trying to get attention, but not necessarily doing so. And I remember in my own experience, that while I did want more attention, I really wasn’t doing anything to get it. If closed circuit television was around when I was in high school, and was recording the hallways, you would be able to see in the videos that I walked down every hallway with my head down, looking at the floor, afraid that somebody would notice me. We can’t be doing this as we are building our business. Because when we do want attention, we’re not going to get it. So if you’re worried that you’re not getting the attention that you’re looking for, I want you to think about, Are you being ignored or are you invisible? Have you put the time into building and fostering and strengthening relationships with people across the social media platforms that you’re involved in? Or if you’ve been silent and only pop up, when you have a product or service to launch? I want you to think about it. Now with that thought in mind, go forth and make it a positive and productive day.
