Reviews:
"THE FUNNIEST, WITTIEST, AND MOST RELATABLE BOOK A GIRL COULD READ." -A. Evers of Blueline Scripture- "Don't Read While Drinking (Your coffee, wine, etc. will shoot through your nose from laughing.)" - R. Johnson of Ivy Owl Reviews- "You will definitely appreciate your own family dysfunction as you read through Amy's ‘Book of Failures.’ Can't wait to see more." -S. Pacey Northside Woman Magazine- "Delight in Amy Lyle’s 45 years of missteps, inadequacies and faux pas. You may appreciate your own dysfunction a little more as you take a journey through Amy’s debacles including: “I Was Not Talking to You,” where Amy mistakes a handsome man waving at her as a potential suitor but in reality, he was only trying to inform her that her belt was dragging on the freeway and “In the Neighborhood,” where members of a cult moving in concurred with a suspicious decline in the cat population. You will relish the chapters entitled “Calls from Sharon,” where Amy’s best friend rants about her kids not getting a fair shot because public schools are ‘so political,’ as her OB/GYN reported her vagina was ‘too clean’ and how the most eligible bachelor from 1982 married a whore. Enjoy “I’m Going to Kill You,” where Amy compares her lack of sleep from her husband’s snoring to CIA agents extracting secrets from a POW."
THE AMY-BINEGAR-KIMMES-LYLE BOOK OF FAILURES is for anyone who has experienced their own disasters or takes pleasure in the failures of others. Includes Book Club questions. Comedy. Women humor. Funny non-fiction. Blended families. Essays.

About the author
Amy Lyle is an author, comedienne/actor and screenwriter that grew up in Marietta, Ohio, which is in the heart of Appalachia, known for a population that is partial to moonshine and prone to acts of violence.
Obsessed with comedians and comedic writers such as Jenny Lawson, Tina Fey, Carrie Fisher, Kristin Wiig, Amy Poehler, Joan Rivers, Ellen DeGeneres, Chelsea Handler, Wendy Williams, Mitch Hedberg, Wanda Sykes, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Will Ferrell, Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball and Roseanne Barr, she developed a writing style that is self-deprecating, hilarious and slightly neurotic.
Amy has self-diagnosed herself with many conditions including: OCD (uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts vacillating from cleaning to running away), misophonia (having intense angry reactions to lip-smacking), Tourette’s Syndrome (yelling out random words), Sedatephobia (finds silence vexing and scary), apraxia (difficulty pronouncing words) and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). She’s taking many, many natural, herbal supplements.
Amy and her (second) husband, Peter, are having many issues raising their four teenagers and large dog together in the suburbs just north of Atlanta.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2019“Book of Failures ...” was an Amazon recommendation made when I purchased another book to read over Christmas vacation. WOW!!! What a great book: tight and concise chapters, self-deprecating, humorous, timely, and therapeutic. I both laughed until I cried AND would put the book down and think about a lesson learned from a chapter just read. It blew away the other New York Times bestselling book I purchased. We all fail ... and often quite spectacularly. Reading Lyle’s witty prose about her own failures (and lessons therefrom) reminded me of the upsides of my own numerous (and often spectacular) failures. Additionally, if you are interested in blogging, Lyle’s chapters are textbook examples of how to write great blog posts. Very, very well done. My highest recommendation.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2024I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I decided to read this book. I have been looking for books similar to Jenny Lawson lately and maybe this would be one. I did enjoy that the author mentioned Jenny Lawson in her book.
Chapters in this book were generally short, which I enjoyed. Each chapter shows a failure or an inadequacy that Amy has experienced. In reading these Anecdotes the reader becomes more familiar with the life that Amy leads.
In all, this was a pretty good book. I didn’t laugh out loud, but it was still enjoyable and a very quick read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2017I purchased this book as gift for 3 of my Bridesmaids. I was originally searching for a female empowerment type of book that had some humor and I gave this one a go! The book itself is quite witty and written in a breezy manner that's easy to follow. I did find myself wishing that some stories would have been edited out and made room to extend the chapters of her sister and failed relationship to her first husband. It would have allowed us to know her on a deeper level, and therefore care about all the other funny bits she shares. Overall, I think it was a good introduction to her style of writing. I would look forward to her exploring herself further as an author because I think she has talent.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2018I grew up next door to Amy in Ohio. I remember either her or her sister Traci putting a worm down my terry cloth romper while we were roller skating in her driveway. I roller skated around quite happily for some time before realizing my romper was transporting a worm.
I particularly loved the chapters about her trip to China and the contrasts between American and Chinese culture. The chapter about the little Chinese baby at the adoption agency is particularly heartwarming.
To the reviewers who called the author privileged, why yes, she is. That's what makes her writing funny...it's called irony.
Amy's book is funny but what is most poignant to me is her ability to write stories that are funny on the surface but hint at something much deeper. Amy, please write another book! I want to know more about your childhood, your family and your relationship with your sister Traci. I remember when I heard about Traci and her daughter's deaths in 2013 and how heartbroken I was. I think you have the ability to bring out the humor in difficult and sad situations and I know there are many people who would benefit from hearing more about your experiences.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2019What are you waiting for click! Buy it! Amy is funny, charming and also humble. Her funny stories filled with what she calls failures are touching and relatable. I think it's her humbleness which is why she calls them failures. But they all read like successes to me. She gets through stuff. She gets through it and she writes about it. She reminds you...we all go through stuff. We slip, we fall, we goof, and we makes mistakes. But if you laugh...oh those giggles....you can grow and heal. I really enjoyed reading this book. I milked it. I would sit down and read a story one reading session at a t time and feel like I knew her.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2019I picked this up for some air travel as I like humor and this was advertised as such with many reviews.
It didn't fit my market niche at all. I tried to stay with it to give it a fair chance to amuse me on my long flight but didn't happen and I eventually cut my losses to read a baseball box-scoring book - yeah, pretty desperate.
For sure this is female-oriented, better if they are family ladies. That said, the quick story bites about the author's life, encounters, family are pretty routine and not presented with any zaniness or writing technique to draw the reader in and make you laugh. Very mild stuff actually.
So for others this may work, but I struggled through nearly half of it looking for a grin and diversion from the boring night flight and didn't happen.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2017My wife Kim, who failed to get her own Amazon account until today, bought Amy's Book of Failures using my account so this review is all hers. What a failure!
"Amy takes the reader through one challenging situation after another, with charm and self-deprecating humor. Her dialogue is honest, If she did make some of it up, as her disclaimer mentions, you won't care because it puts a smile on your face. My favorite story was the disjointed conversation between Amy and her husband, about whether to adopt a child from China. If you are fortunate enough to hear her read from her book in person, you will double your pleasure."
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2024Amy shares embarrassments n social indignities with such flair! I laughed so hard I cried. made me realize there are others like me, and I don't mind being a part of this club!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
A super cute and funny read. I had not heard of this author previously but her essays on life and family are hilarious and well written and relatable.
She seems like someone you would want to be friends with/get into the wine with. Super fun and loveable.
