Whether you are just starting your career or are experiencing burn-out and need to re-center, this is an excellent resource to help guide you on your path. I have read this book a couple of times and continue to share and use the concepts in both my work and personal life. Leadership starts with being a leader for yourself and practicing your values -- there is something for everyone in this book. There are exercises through-out the book, and the accompanying workbook to help provoke thought and learn more about yourself and the leader & human you want to be. Highly recommended, and I will continue to use this as a resource and share it with others for years to come!

There are so many different qualities that make up a leader, and so many different styles of leadership, often it’s easy to get lost in a sea of self-doubt and preconceived ideas of what a leader is, defined primarily by roles and titles. Leadership by Choice introduces the concept that you lead from wherever you are, regardless of your role, but by authenticity and truly understanding your values. Taking this inspirational concept, the book is written from a personal perspective where the author speaks to her own journey, the triumphs and tragedies along the way, in a manner, equally humorous and thoughtful, which guides the reader toward self-reflection, bringing real world application of potential defining moments to light.
By far the best part of Leadership by Choice is the gift of the accompanying Reflection Journal. Leadership by Choice not only illuminates all of the qualities that leaders possess through 7 key impact points, but by incorporating the journal, allows the reader to personally and thoughtfully identify with leadership qualities authentic to one’s own style and to honors one’s own values. The journal makes the book interactive by allowing the reader to find their authentic leadership qualities, and recognize the value in what they bring to the table, regardless of the seat they are in.

Sue has been a productive part of the CEO Roundtable and has significantly contributed to our conversation on leadership. I was delighted when she presented me with a copy of her book when it was first published. She has put together a thoughtful look at the nuts and bolts of effective leadership. Drawing from her experiences as a military officer, athlete, salesperson, mother and executive coach, she not only frames the elements of leadership in relatable, personal terms, but also provides a practical guide to transform her words into action. Her “Reflection Exercises” give permission to relate each chapter to your own situation, and the companion workbook hones and reinforces her message.

First let me start by saying, I gave it 4 stars because I wish it had an audiobook out. I prefer to listen than to read as I have a busy corporate job and sometimes I listen while driving. Hurry up and make an audio version!

As inspirational as it has been, there are practical reflection exercises in both the book and the reflection journal.
The chapters help you put into practice the key learnings. It has helped me overcome personal obstacles I have been challenged with for quite some time. It has raised my awareness of my own internal thought process and guided me to get back on track.
I'm driven to learn more, achieve more and broaden my influence and impact; both personally and professionally.

A great program for a leader and their team to grow and achieve results....the reflection journal is key!
I cannot say enough about this book. I recommend this to all leaders AND THEIR teams! Practical guidance and knowledge to elevate us all.

I am always on the lookout for insights into being a great leader that may speak to team members, friends and family - and Sue Salvemini has delivered in this book. It speaks to all levels of leaders and the accompanying work book gives newer leaders, or those looking for personal direction, positive and concrete ways to move onward and upward. Ms. Salvemini gives clear, concise direction on how to go, get, or do what you want for the right reasons, and how to keep yourself (and your team/group/family) accountable for your actions and consequences - and then how to reflect and grow from the experiences. I will definitely be recommending this book to new and potential leaders going forward!
