PP 139: Celebrating the Little Wins
It’s all too easy to get caught up in the belief that unless we hit our big goal, we have not accomplished anything that matters. This is entirely not the case, and in this episode I discuss just that.
It's easy to believe that unless we hit our big goals, we have not accomplished anything. In this episode of the Positive Productivity podcast @thekimsutton shares another perspective: https://thekimsutton.com/pp139 #podcastClick To TweetEpisode Transcription – Celebrating the Little Wins
When’s the last time you celebrated little wins in your life?
Are you celebrating only the big wins? Or, are you remembering that every little step you take and every little accomplishment you make gets you just that much closer to the big goal?
I’ve seen so many entrepreneurs and even non entrepreneurs who think they need to wait to celebrate when they achieve the big final outcome.
This is so not the case. Every day in each of our lives we have so many little wins that we need to remember to take time to celebrate and give ourselves a pat on the back for.
Over this past week, you’ve heard me sharing the struggle about my hacked websites and server. And, just yesterday, I was finally able to start rebuilding my site. Through each step of the process, I have celebrated the little wins, including the simple task is finally being able to get WordPress installed on my hosting.
For those of you who build websites, you know that installing WordPress shouldn’t be a huge deal. However, this whole process has been an amusing case of what can trip us next.
hen I finally got WordPress installed two nights ago, I took a deep sigh of relief, and then actually wondered “What next?” Using the website as an example, don’t just look at the end goal of getting your website built as the only thing to celebrate. There are so many steps in between. Break down those goals into one page or one post at a time.
Looking around my office right now, I’m realizing that even within my house, there are a whole bunch of little goals that I could use in order to try to reach that big goal of having a clean house. By the way, the clean house probably won’t ever happen in its entirety until all my kids move out because it seems sometimes that as soon as we get one room clean, the littles start right where we left off, blowing their tornado of disaster right through. However, I know that even just looking at my office today, I can have little wins just by cleaning up my desk, or getting all the toys out of here.
Take a look at your daily and weekly schedule and break down those big goals into the little tasks, and every time you accomplish one, check it off and give yourself a big pat on the back. If lists of little tasks are overwhelming to you, try shorter to do lists with only three items on them. Remember, a short list with only three checked off tasks looks a lot better than a big, long, massive list. With the same three items checked off, giving yourself that peace of mind and this space to celebrate will help you move through your day and feel a sense of accomplishment a lot easier.
Now, with all that said, go forth and have a positive and productive day.
