Building Your Personal Brand

Over the course of the past 240 something episodes, you’ve heard me talk a bit about how my business has shifted from working 40 to 80 hours a week, only on client work, to working more and more On My Own activities. And by my own activities, I mean, inside my own business, building products, building programs, and even working on the podcast. I’ve received quite a few questions about how I knew it was time, whether or not I was scared and how I did it. Especially with all My kids. So I wanted to take today’s episode and answer this question because it is one that I get quite frequently. This transition did not happen overnight. And it was a very slow transition. At first I was spending maybe 15 to 30 minutes a day working on my own activities. And over time, I’ve transitioned to working four to six hours minimum a day on my own activities, and only a couple hours on client work. This is required quite a bit of planning, and also organization to make sure I’m meeting all the needs of my clients as well as making sure that all of the financial requirements of my family are met. As I’ve been building my own products and services, though, the income that’s been coming in from them has supplemented the last client income from the digital marketing side of my business. And that’s been less of a concern. If you’re trying to figure out how you can transition away from full time client work in your small business to working more and more on your personal brand. I want to encourage you to just start taking the first steps. Wake up 15 to 30 minutes before your usual wake up time in the morning, and make that the time that you designate towards your own work, or perhaps stay awake a little bit later every night just to make sure that you have that time. I prefer to wake up early, because it’s when my mind is most alert and it’s when my clients are not awake, nobody’s disturbing me. And I know I’m in my peak productivity time. As this transition occurred, I also gained a lot more confidence in what I was offering to my clients. So another thing that made the transition easier was that my rates were raised. Since I started building my personal brand in 2015. My rates for the digital marketing side of the business have quadrupled, if not more, and that has definitely relieves some of the financial tension from our life. I want you to remember that there is no such thing as an overnight success story. So if you’re trying to build your own personal brand, then the most important step you can take right now is making sure that you’re scheduling time in for you into your calendar. Remember, you didn’t become an entrepreneur to build everybody else’s dreams, you became an entrepreneur to build your own. If you don’t take control of your calendar now, then somebody else will so make sure to schedule time in for you and your dream building. The same goes if you’re still working full time in another job. You have to set up time in your schedule to be building your dreams into making them a reality. If you’re curious about any of the tools that I’m using in my business to help me in this growth, I want you to visit my resources page, which you can find at duck KIM sutton.com forward slash resources While this is still a page in development, I’ll be giving a rundown of all the different tools I use in my business that allow me to best use my time and also take time away from work to spend with my family. This is crucially important. We need to make sure that we’re taking time for ourselves that we’re taking time for our friends, family and loved ones. And then we’re also taking time to sleep. Please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time on my contact page if you have any questions about any of this, or as I mentioned before, to submit a question for a future episode. Now with all this said, Go forth and have a positive and productive day.
