QUICK NOTES – PRIORITIZE YOU IN YOUR WORK DAY:

What do you focus on first in your work day?

Do email and/or social media grab your attention before all else?

Does client work come before working ON your business?

As an entrepreneur, it can be too easy to make everyone else’s priorities our own. We must remember, however, that working on/in our clients’ businesses will not create sustainable growth for our own.

In this video, I’m going to share why it’s so important to prioritize YOU in your work day.

Where do you prioritize you in your work day?

Do you get up and immediately check your email? Do you look and see what client work do you have to do today?

Do you check your text messages to see what fires have started themself overnight that you need to put out?

Are you scrolling through social media to see what other people are up to and what you need to respond to?

Do you spend time putting out kid fights? (I just had to throw that one in there because there’s a kid screaming in the other room.)

I’m Kim Sutton, host of the Positive Productivity Podcast, and today I’m going to be talking about why you need to prioritize you in your work day.

For years I was starting my day with my inbox. Don’t do this. I would spend probably an hour or two scrolling through responding to other people’s requests even though I had a list of stuff I wanted to do for me and my business.

After I wrapped up in my inbox, I would head over to social media and then I would jump into client work. Note that none of that had any significant importance in my business, nor did it involve working on my own projects.

By the end of the day — and when I say end of day, I mean 12 midnight, one o’clock in the morning, two o’clock in the morning — you can probably imagine that I was too tired to work on anything for me. So another day went by and then another day went by, then a month, then a year. And, none of my projects ever received significant attention from me.

I don’t want this to happen to you.

It’s crazy seeing the sunlight pouring in because normally I’m recording these videos about an hour or two later in the day, but I am still prioritizing me sharing with you before client work.

I love my clients dearly and I will work late to make sure I am meeting their requests and making them ridiculously happy. But I do have to plan time in my day to work on my projects or else it’s never going to get done.

So, currently it’s not even nine o’clock Eastern time. I am sorry to all — well, I’m not sorry — sorry but not sorry to all my Pacific time zone community members who perhaps got a notification that I was live, but I’m not sorry that I am here with the sunlight streaming in getting in your face.

I want you to prioritize you today.

I hope that I am not the first thing that you watched this morning and I hope I’m not the first thing that you watched this morning because I don’t want you to be on social media. I don’t want you to be in your inbox.

I want you to be prioritizing you.

I’m looking around because I’m trying to find my journal. Every day, I typically start with a journal entry. I set my goals for the day if I haven’t set them the night before…

By the way, setting my goals the night before… I ignored that recommendation for years. It works so much better. I get so much more done when I sent my my goals for the next day the night before, and then I get to work on my business.

I have a lot of work to do for clients. I will not deny it. I have a few websites, a few landing pages, a few sales pages, and some funnels that I need to be working on. I am fully aware of that, but if I’m distracted working on their work instead of working on my own, if I’m constantly thinking about all the things that I want to do for me, then I’m not gonna do as good of a job for them.

But, if I can push out the two or three activities that I want to do for myself in any given day, then now it’s off my mind. Now I can move forward.

If you’re curious right now, my goal for today is to record the first four videos of my feel good funnel course. That’s it.

I know that might sound ridiculous for you or to you considering a lot of people, including myself of last year, get scared going on camera, but I know that if I knock them out as soon as I wrap up here, those four are done and off to the editor. Now it’s off my mind. I know that I accomplished something for my business today and I can go forth in peace knowing “Good job, Kim.”

If I’m not going to focus on my business first, if you’re not to focus on your business first, then we’re constantly going to be in the roller coaster of looking for our next client.

We’re not going to have anything on our backend that can be selling itself, that can be providing value to our community, whether it be blog, articles, videos, courses, books, period. If we’re not focusing on ourself first, then the likelihood of any of that, of any of our brilliance being created so we can share it to the world is slim to none.

So, prioritize you in your work day.

You don’t need to make it all eight hours, 10 hours, 18 hours — we’re entrepreneurs, I know we work a lot — but even if you were to give yourself just two hours today at the beginning of your work day, I guarantee you will see a of difference in your business.

If you would like some help working smarter instead of harder in your business, I want you to check down below in the description. There’s a link to sign up for the work smarter, not harder challenge.

I will be back on Friday with Feel Good funnel Fridays, but before then I would love to hear your comments right down below.

What you are going to focus on for you today?

I want to know what your hours of prioritizing you are. Are you going to get up early? Are you going to block off a block of time at the beginning of the day to focus on you? What are you going to do? So comment down below like this video.

Share it with any of your friends who can use it and until the next time we meet, go forth and have a positive and a productive day.
