QUICK NOTES – STOP TREATING SMALL BUSINESS OWNERSHIP LIKE A BUFFET

As entrepreneurs, too often we fall victim to buffet mentality. We see a plethora of opportunities spread out in front of us, and feel like we should take a bite of each.

Wrong!

It’s time to stop treating small business ownership like a buffet and stay instead in our zone of genius.

Have you ever struggled with knowing that you know how to do all these different tasks and somebody asks you, Hey, can you do this? Hey, can you do that? Hey, can you do this other thing and about 1000 miles long is this list of Hey, can you do it and then every single step along the way you say yes I can. Today I want to remind you that you need to stop treating small business ownership like a buffet table. We are not at the buffet. We don’t need to take a little bit of everything. We don’t need to do a little bit of everything. What we need to do is stick to our genius zone. I have been guilty of this in my own business when I Started in 2012. I really didn’t. I, it was my first real venture into the online entrepreneur space. So I was learning a lot. And every time I learned how to do something new, I thought I needed to offer that as a new product or service to my clients. And even in 2019, I had a team member, my dear sister, Jackie, who every time she realized, Oh, we can do this, she would turn around and go put it on the website. Oh, we can. We’re doing good on Pinterest, we need to offer Pinterest marketing services to clients. No, I would go back around behind her and take it off. When we stay in our genius zone. And when we stop treating our small business ownership like a buffet, then it’s easier for people to know what our expertise is. And then to be able to give referrals for their expertise. It’s so much easier to get those referrals when people know what you do and how to do it. express it to others. It’s easier to do a two minute elevator speech. When you know exactly what it is you do instead of saying hey I do this and this and this and this and you haven’t even gotten through it or your why when the elevator doors open, so that’s way one I want you to stop treating small business ownership like a buffet table. We number two, and this is going to timestamp This video is how often we feel like we need to put everything on our task list. And the reason I say this is going to timestamp This is because I’m recording this. On May 6 2020. We’re in the middle of the stay home. Thing COVID pandemic and I was putting a lot of undue pressure on myself to get more done in the stay at home situation than I was before the stay home started. My new I have five kids. Three of them are homeschooling. My husband is here. Yes, he’s an awesome dad and he monitors the kid monitors to kids all day long. But there are so constant interruptions coming into me, whether it be from the kids or clients, even clients seem to think, oh, stay home, she must be available. No. Stop treating your business like a buffet table. And stop telling yourself that just because you think just because there’s an extra line on your to do list that you have more time to get more done. These are still 24 hours long. Nothing’s changed, their days are still 24 hours long. You still need time to sleep, you still need quality time with your loved ones, if you’re stuck in the house with them. And I mean, quality time, not that time where they’re annoying the heck out of you and you really think that you need social distancing. To recover from social distancing. You need that quality time, so stop adding extra stuff to your to do list just because you think you can’t stop treating your small business like a buffet table.
