What if God had stopped at 80%?

It’s an interesting thought, isn’t it? Regardless of your spiritual background, I have no doubt it would be difficult to look around and imagine a 20% absence.

To put this in perspective, if God had stopped at 80%…

  • Humans may not have had heads or shoulders (based on humans being 7-½ heads high)
  • Earth and half of Mars could have been missing from the planets (based on a count of eight)
  • Dogs, cats, rabbits, horses and at least 1079 other mammals wouldn’t have been created
  • Russia, Canada, the United States, China, Brazil, Australia, India, Argentina AND another 13 million square miles would have been left off the Earth
  • Approximately 400 types of fruit, including apples, bananas, strawberries and watermelon may never have come to be

Are you wondering how I came to ask this question?

It’s simple.

Historically, I have had a challenge taking my personal projects to 100%. My team, friends, family and I refer to it as Chronic Idea Disorder.

Maybe you can relate, but of the 20 domains in my GoDaddy account, only 5 are being used. Ironically, two of those aren’t even mine. So, yea. That means I’m utilizing 3 of my 18 domains.

That’s 16% in case you’re wondering.

I have to wonder what would be happening in my business if even 50% of my domains were actively being used.

Very often, my projects would make it to 80%, but, shortly thereafter, progress came to a screeching halt. It’s as though a magical idea traffic cop saw me running my race, trying as hard as I could to make it to the finish line, and…

SCREEEEEEEEEECH!

The traffic light turned red.

I stopped at the intersection and took a look around. Everywhere I looked, colors and words shouted for my attention, promising a bigger, better opportunity.

Oh! Look!” my brained shouted. “There’s a new billboard! I should go check it out!

Without a moment of thought, my feet took me off the path of my current race and I was immediately disqualified.

A new idea entered my brain, and as fast as I was running in one direction, I was suddenly running perpendicular to my original course.

What if God had stopped at 80%?

Could we bear to think about which of our closest friends and relatives wouldn’t exist?

What if our work had the potential to impact others as much as our loved ones impact us? Are you willing to make the sacrifice and stop at 80%, knowing that your purpose wouldn’t be fulfilled?

While we’re not God, our work CAN impact others beyond any imaginable belief.

Do you think you should keep going?

Chronic Idea Disorder is a curse AND a blessing. I would have to imagine, with all the amazingness He created, that God has a touch of it, too.

But… He knew how to harness it.

Or did He?

Should there be 20% more? Did God get distracted with the idea of another galaxy and move on from The Milky Way?

I wonder…
