PP 394: Rina Shinn, Owner and Medical Director of Adonis Cosmetic Surgery and Spa
A Harvard graduate, a trauma surgeon, and now the owner and medical director of Adonis Cosmetic Surgery and Spa, Dr. Rina Shinn was a real go-getter from the start. She graduated Harvard in just two years and went on to have a successful career as a trauma surgeon and Chief of Surgery. When her hospital faulted, she was forced to make a tough decision: go back into trauma surgery, working up to 100 hours a week, and give up her personal life with a one year old at home or leave the familiar behind and open her own business. Listen in as Rina and I discuss her education, her early career and how she ultimately made the decision to transition away from a guaranteed paycheck in order to open her own cosmetic surgery and spa center and balance her professional and personal responsibilities.

Quotes
5:43 “In cosmetic surgery … quite often, what they’re not saying behind that request is not that they really wanted to have bigger boobs or have a different face, but they were just cheated on or their husband or boyfriend left for a younger person and they just don’t feel desirable anymore or feel beautiful anymore and so all they want is just somebody to tell them they’re still beautiful and that they’re still desirable and worthy.”
28:00 “Our point is to become a psychiatrist with a knife, actually.”
