[needs edited but thanks for checking me out!]
Have you ever looked at your life and with all the issues? And I don’t mean bad issues, but positive and negative issues? experiences? How about that word and said, positive and negative experiences on a day to day basis that you experience that’s redundant. and wondered why your life can’t be like everybody else is that you see on social media or perhaps, When am I going to have a normal normal day? When is everything going to become? When is my business going to be as successful as everybody else’s? Why can’t I just have one week without a sick kid? Well, today I’m going to talk about how you can thrive Not just survive with life’s curveballs as an entrepreneur. If this is your first time meeting me, I’m Kim Sutton, host of the positive productivity podcast. And I’m marketing and automation mentor for business and life coaches. By the way, that is my cat theme. I have tried 18 times to get her off my lap. But she just keeps on coming back. Cats. My cats, my kids, my husband, my clients play a very active role in all the content and if it weren’t for them, I don’t know where my ideas would come from for these videos. But anyway, in this In today’s video, I’m going to talk about how to handle life’s curveballs. So along with being a podcast host and a business and marketing automation mentor, I am as I said, a wife and a mom of five and very early in my entrepreneurial journey I found myself can be Myself, I found myself comparing myself Mondays and redundant redundancies, I guess go together. But I found myself comparing myself to everybody else on the internet. I there are two very distinct
memories that I have
from 2015 2016. The first came when I realized that I was working 80 hours a week for my clients and was spending no time on my own business and I received an email one day, talking about how one of my business mentors had transitioned from working only on her client stuff, to building out programs for herself. I was blown away and overwhelmed. And the two didn’t go together in a very good way. I felt like I was doing something wrong. Every single day. It felt like I had a sick kid. My littles as Today is the day of this recording. I have a six year old who’s a kindergartener and twin five year olds who praise be will be going to kindergarten in the fall. And then I also have high school junior and in the eighth grader, but the liberals were in daycare. And they just started in every single week. One of them had to be home with me. My husband was working outside the home. We needed him to be getting his hours in so that we could buy the house that we lived in then and still live in today. And yes, we have bought it. So all of those sick days came to me. I, I didn’t know what to do with myself, because every single time one of those days came up, I had to let a client know I’m sorry, I can’t talk today. Or I would have projects that I would want to work on for myself. And I would have to push them off yet another day. Until I figured out, no I don’t. You can just find other ways to To make it work. There were other times when we faced major life inconveniences. I mean, my business was going up and down like a roller coaster. My husband wasn’t making a whole terrible lot in his job. And we we’ve had these, we had a day at the end of 2015 when his car was repoed. Or we had a day in 2016 when our when our water was turned off. We’ve had plenty of those days. And if you’re experiencing those days that I need you to know that you are not alone. But what you cannot do on the days when life throws us curveballs at you, is go back to bed, pull the covers over your head and hide. When you do that, when you hide from life curveballs, you’re not helping anything.
especially if you’re laying in bed, thinking about how your life is not going the way that it plans. Sure if you want to go into bed lay down for a minute and brainstorm about ways to make it better.
But that was not my experience with going back into bed. My experience with going into bed was going in feeling bad for myself. I would allow myself five minutes and then I had to get back up and keep on going, I’m okay with that too. But don’t hide from your problems. face them. It is your responsibility to take your business and your personal life to the next level. Nobody else is going to do it for you. So when the power goes out when the water is turned off when you have a sick kid, make the most of it. I created a 30 day abundance challenge it’s still out there living somewhere. Or if you click the link down below, you’ll find the resources page where you can see everything that I talked about in this video but I created a 30 day abundance challenge with a sick infant on my belly.
Throwing up and just everything and I knew that I wanted to create something still that day. But for any of you mamas, you know what I’m talking about. He didn’t want to be anywhere, but on me. So there was on the couch with this baby on my belly writing emails. This was 2016. I wrote 30 emails that day, while the other tour school while I had him on my lap, and that to date, that funnel has made me thousands of dollars without even trying, it’s still just floating out there. You can do that to take today’s life experiences and figure out how to make them better take today’s curveballs, today’s life curveballs and figure out how to use them as fuel to help your community. What am I good friends shared with me that she saw somebody Speak on stage and that person was talking about how we shouldn’t share our wounds, but we can certainly share our scars. And I love this. Too many times I have seen people, not just entrepreneurs, but people in general friends from the past. post their grievances on Facebook in the moment. Oh, this person did this to me. This person did this to me, oh, this sucks. Don’t do that. Let life’s curveball, pass you by, figure out the good that came out of it and then share what you learned. It’s a beauty scar. It’s not a bad scar. It’s a beauty scar. Every single experience
that we have been through has led me
to coming up with something better. If I hadn’t been through all the negatives, then I really wouldn’t have a lot of the content to talk to you today. About just last night. By the way, this completely Side note this, I’m waiting for the one day by the way that she decides to watch herself inappropriate but right here on camera last night, she will not leave me alone. She was laying next to me on my bed and I had actually ate dinner from bed last night. I did not recommend that but that’s just where it was. She put her paws into catch up. And I didn’t realize it. I was already done, but I hadn’t taken care of my plate. That’s exactly what we need in this video, right. And all of a sudden, while I’m doing work, she flicks her pot in the side of my head was covered with ketchup. It was all over the wall next to me as well. All I could do was laugh. All we can do is laugh at life’s curveballs and look for the light that comes from the fire. side. So today look to see what possibilities lie on the other side of life’s curveballs. You may have just heard one of my kids laughing in the other line
or in the in the other room.
He’s one of my challenges at the moment. But out of every downside comes greater possibilities. I mean, with this kid, he’s my oldest. I’m not going to name any names. I don’t need my kids names. He’s having to learn what he wants to be when he grows up, what the impact is of every single decision that he makes in the day. Now, I’m not saying that we can’t take the time to relax.
we have to decide if what we’re going to focus on in this very moment is the stuff that we want to do right now. That can I swear she just sprayed me with something
not not bad stuff.
Or if we want to focus on the activities that are going to help us in 90 days and this is something that I’m having to work on with my son is showing That there’s a healthy mix between focusing only on the one sweet now focusing on the needs. And I have to deal with this myself too. I know this is taking a little side swing the life’s curveballs. But if we’re only focusing on the ones and we’re not focusing on the needs, then we’re not going to be able to survive life’s curveballs. In my son’s case. He wants to play games all the time. It’s just what he wants to do. I know a lot of teenagers just want to play games all the time. But when we look at his his test scores, not so good. The cat just wants to keep on coming out. So what we need to do is, is just circumvent. I feel like I’m rambling now. whatever’s going on in your day, whether it’s dealing with kids, whether it’s dealing with aging parents, whether it’s dealing with sick spouses, whether you are sick or just
having one of those rough days.
Keep it short. Don’t, don’t hide in bed for too long, give yourself a five minute limit, and then make the most out of everything. I would love to hear what your plan is going to be for handling life’s curveballs. From here on out, I want to hear how you’re going to use it to help your community.
