Episode Transcription: Eenie Meanie Miney Mo and Our Business

Over the past week, I’ve gotten quite a few emails from people on my list expressing that they are having an issue trying to do too many tasks and complete too many projects at one time.

The best way that I can describe this is that they are suffering from Three Stooges Syndrome.

The reason I came up with this way of describing it is because last night I was little listening to my two and a half year old, Davey, singing the singing song of Eenie Meanie Miney Mo.

Every time he got to “Mo” I just kept on thinking of Moe on The Three Stooges.

But what’s often happening is that instead of doing Eenie Meanie Miney Mo, and choosing one task or project to concentrate on, so often, we don’t just choose that one, but we might choose to three or many, many more.

This past month in my business has been extremely chaotic. But I have to share that the only reason I was able to get through it with any type of sanity was because I was constantly only focusing on one project or task at a time.

You may be listening to this episode well into the future, but even as of right now when I’m recording, my websites are all down. They were attacked by malware. And while I could be focusing on trying to get them back up and talking to my hosting provider, I realized that right now, that is not the best use of my energy.

I know what client projects I have to focus on, so I’m working on those later today.

I know some other work that I personally need to focus on, so I’ve blocked out my time for that then, but I’m not going to intermingle those two together. And I’m certainly not going to bring in the chaos with my website into either of those equations.

Multitasking can be disastrous. It reduces our efficiency so much. And often we wind up with a whole bunch of incomplete tasks, rather than anything that we can take a look at and be proud of.

Today, I want you to think about what you are singing any Eenie Meanie Miney Mo about and seriously, only choose one. See that task through to completion and then give yourself a great big pat on the back.

Now with that said, go forth and have a positive and productive day.
